Scraps in my Workbasket Blog Party

I saw this quiz and decided to do it as part of my getting back into blogging. I don't mean for my blog to become just a bunch of quizzes and giveaways, but I figure it's a good way to get back into things. =)
{1} when you think of "old movies",  what immediately comes to mind?
Jimmy Stewart. =D And a lot of movies - my favorite probably being It's a Wonderful Life.

{2} who is one of your favorite film or literary heroes (or heroines) and why?
Heroes... Colonel Brandon. Because he's gentle and kind and a man of action, not just a man of talk and intentions.

....................................................
....................................................

Heroines... Wow, I have a lot of favorites. I guess I'll just say Jo March for now. I love how honest she is and the fact that she's not afraid to be herself.
{3} if you could live in a movie, which one would it be and why?
Boy oh boy is this one tough! I guess Emma. I like the dresses and the characters. The dances and the estates. In the end, I'd prolly wanna come out of the movie and live my own life, though. =)

{4} music has changed a lot since 1900 - which "modern" type of music is your favorite?
Not really sure about this one...
{5} any songs you'd like to share with us? (lyrics, video, etc.)
I could share the Duck Song because it makes me laugh... But I guess I'll share the song I have in my head right now instead:

{6} if your life had soundtrack, what would it sound like?
Depends what I'm doing! Adventurous sometimes, calm at other times. A mix of Dear Frankie and Pirates of the Caribbean, I guess. hahaha
{7} when do you start counting down till your birthday?
I guess I just count down each month from August until my birthday. I don't think about it a lot or anything... just on the 14th of each month. =D
{8} what makes your birthday special?
It's Valentines Day. =D And I have simply incredible friends and family!
{9} do you ever wish you were born in a different month?
Meh... Not really

and finally...

{10} pick and post five words to describe your personality - you can add a description under each if you like.
Reliable - Maybe not 100% of the time, but most of the time. If I make a commitment to someone, I do my best to fulfill it.

Imaginative - This is probably one of my best qualities, even though it's my worst character trait. It helps me relate to other people, but I also tend to get lost in my own little world.

Changeable - I like to blend in. Sometimes I am consciously making decisions to act in a manner that will (in my mind) make myself more agreeable to those around me... other times I realize that I'm acting/talking like other people without thinking about it.

Observant - Another good/bad thing. Sometimes I notice stuff that is useful (where someone leaves their iPod, where a store is off of the highway) and other times I notice stuff that I shouldn't. =P

Confusing - I guess I don't really even need to go into detail here. Just look at the first and third words that I used to describe myself! =P

Scarf Happiness

So... I'm sure I've mentioned this once or twice, but I *love* wearing scarves. They are the perfect accent to any outfit and can really dress up a plain T-shirt. Or hold back your hair. Or make for a cute belt. And the big ones help you keep warm in the winter... and let you feel sort of Jane Austen-y. So yeah... the great things about scarves are pretty much endless.

Well... today I was introduced to an adorable blog. Made even more adorable by their current giveaway and the etsy shop that is linked to. One of the best Etsy's ever! (Right after my friend Lindsay's) Anyhow... here's the giveaway! If you go and enter and win... think of me? lol Okay, I won't deprive you of your scarf happiness. =D

Wise Girls in a Wild World

Is it really possible to be wise in our world today? Discretion, modesty, purity, etc. have all been thrown out the window in our society. In her book Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild, Mary Kassian talks about how God wants us to live. I haven't had an opportunity to read this book, but I'm hoping I'll be able to soon as I have entered this giveaway! I'd encourage you to peek at the giveaway, too. =)

Thoughts of Spring Blog Party

Photobucket

How would people describe your personality? (If they could only use ONE word.) Are they right?
I asked my friend Bailey about this, and she said, "Helpful." I'd like to think she's right!
What celebrity/celebrities would create a “Star-Struck” feeling if you saw them in real life?
Well... I'm not really one of those girls that is all goo-goo over movie stars and would flip out if she saw one. So I'm not seeking them out or writing in for autographs. I guess if I *had* to meet a "star" in real life, I'd pick someone from the cast of Sue Thomas.

Jack's picture was the first one I found with good quality, but I'd love to meet Sue, Bobby, or Tara, too. Or Lucy. =)

Are you a hopeless romantic?
Define hopeless. I really don't know. Probably. Would it qualify me as a hopeless romantic if I get all excited when Jack proposes to Lucy in While You Were Sleeping? Or when John Thornton proposes and gives that look in North and South?

It took that question for me to realize that two of my favorite ever proposals take place near a train. Is it a sign?! ;)

What is your comfort food/drink?
Smoothie or cinnamon roll, depending whether I want cool comfort or warm. =)

Be brave – tell us something very random and weird about yourself.
I have a hard time going to sleep if I have socks on my feet.

What is your greatest fear or strange phobia?
I don't know. The first one that comes to mind is burning myself on the oven. I'm always very careful to open the oven door completely and stay as far away from the racks as possible.

Movies: Action, Drama, Romantic Comedy, Documentary, Comedy? What are your favorite genres?
I like so many different genres... but period drama are a favorite. And adventurey stuff.

Books: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Biographies, True Stories, Self-Help, Devotional/Study? What are your favorite types of reading material?
I love books! I like suspense, historical fiction, true stories, etc. This is one of my favorite things in the world:

Music: Funk, Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical, Film Score, Blues, Classic Rock, Crooner, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Techno? What are your favorite types?
Classical, sacred, and soundtrack. With some fifties thrown in for good measure. =)

What movie or book character can you most relate to?
Well... My father has never been unjustly sent to prison, but I have always felt a strong kinship with Roberta from The Railway Children.

Name one weakness of yours (confession is good for the soul).
I watch Tom and Jerry. There's a safe confession. lol

If you could live anywhere at all (and take all your loved ones with you), where would you go?
England, most likely. Or Prince Edward Island.

What is one of your favorite things to catch a whiff of?
Rain. Pure, country rain. I'm always sad when it rains here in the city 'cause it doesn't smell as good.

When you leave a social gathering, do you wish: You would have talked more or You would have talked less?
Depends. Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Usually I'm pretty cool with my amount of silence vs. my amount of speech.

If money wasn’t a factor, what stores would you shop in?
Barnes and Noble is a no-brainer. And thrift stores. And Kohls. I'm leaving something out, but there you have it.

What are your favorite animals?
     Dogs, I guess. =)

I will post later today or maybe tomorrow with some pictures and more details from my Dad's accident.
That's all, folks!

Basket Full of Thoughts

Today I'm just going to post a bunch of random things. I love those posts! =) Hopefully you like them, too.

First up:
Can you believe it's February already?! I sure can't. It feels like it should still be the end of 2010... like we should be anticipating Christmas or something. But nope... it's February already. Here's a list of the pros and cons of the month:

Pros:

  • Tons of chocolate

  • Everybody's spreadin' the love (well... almost everybody)

  • Lot's of adorable pink-and-red going around
Cons:

  • Coldness. Coldness with snow is fine, but without the pretty snow... not so much.

Well... okay, I only thought of one con. Actually, two. I don't usually get much (or anything) valentines-y because everyone is so focused on my birthday. Not that I want to skip my birthday or anything... it's just sad that it gets in the way of Valentines.

Next item:
I think that most of you have already submitted your answers to my Fine Eyes Quiz, but if you haven't done so yet, you should! And maybe try creating your own? =D

Also in the way of past posts, don't forget to go to Bailey's blog and say 'howdy'. Not like I'm trying to force you or anything, but if you enjoy my blog at all, I'm sure you'll love hers. As long as you can put up with two people who love Jane Eyre. ;)

Aaaaanndd... Next up:
The wonders of photoshop. Here is a picture that my sister took of me:

Wanna know a secret? I have never worn a regency dress. =) Yup. Love photoshop. I think I'd love having the dress more than I love photoshop... but I'll work with what I've got. Anyhow, the purpose behind the picture was so that I can use it on my sidebar to match my new blog theme. =D

Well, that's all for now, my friends!

Tata!

Request

Hey, people! I hope your are all staying warm. Our high here yesterday was somewhere between -1 and 2 degrees. :) I wish that we could get some snow along with the cold weather... 'twould certainly make the weather more worth it as far as I'm concerned. Though I suppose snow might shut us up inside, which really wouldn't be cool.

I'm here to tell you all some very exciting news: one of my dearest friends has started a blog! I would love it (and she would, too) if you would take time to hop on over to her blog. The two posts she has done so far are about Jane Eyre and "Some People" who just don't get it. I'm really excited to have Bay here in the blogosphere, so help encourage her to stay, won't you?

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Today is a newsy blog post. =) I have several things to share with you, my dear readers.

First off, I am leaving in one week to go to Florida! My grandparents live right near Clearwater Beach, and I'm going to go visit them for awhile. =)

You'll never guess which airline I'm flying. =D

Also in the news this morning: I have a new commenting system. After seeing this post by Eden, I decided that I should take a look at Disqus. In short, I saw what I liked and I liked what I saw, so I followed the insanely easy steps for getting Disqus onto my blog. =D

Also... I had been unaware of the new Blogger editing layout until yesterday when I was messing with my blog.  How did I miss out on this? It makes pictures and *everything* so much easier! If you have a blogger blog and haven't switched over yet, I would encourage you to do that. You would go to the Settings tab and scroll down to Global Settings  where you can select the editing style you want.

One more thing: I'm adding a couple of pages to my blog, so go check them out if you want to. One page is a short biography of my life. I might make it a little longer... why don't you read it and tell me if you think it's too short, too long, or perfect length?

Just because I'm posting two posts so very close together, please don't ignore my youtube Tuesday post. It's pretty cool, if I do say so myself. =D

Looking to the Future

The near future includes an awesome giveaway courtesy of Lindsay! Go have a peek and enter for the earrings! [Don't enter for the scarf, though... I want to win that. ;)]

This year has really flown by, and November is just around the corner. Have any of you ever heard of NaNoWriMo (NATional NOvel WRIting MOnth) or maybe even participated? I heard about it last October and gave it a go. I actually met my goal and wrote a novel! I'm thinking about giving it another shot this year, though I know it will be slightly more challenging because I'm 18 now and have to write a minimum of 50,000 words.
If you are interested in NaNoWriMo, please visit either their Young Writers Program or their Home Page. If you decide to do it, feel free to add me (ramblinrose506) as a friend on either site.

My church is going on a trip to Israel in the spring, and I initially thought that I should go out and get a job right away to try and make money for said trip. Right now I'm kinda reconsidering. What do you think? Would you go on a 10 day trip just for the experience even if you didn't know any of the other travelers all that well? Should I go for it, or should I wait until I have enough money (supposing this ever happened...) to take a friend?

Also in the near future is (I hope!) a trip to Florida to visit my grandparents. I would be traveling alone, but I have no problems with that. I love traveling! =D I have been looking at ticket prices today and I just need a confirmation from my grandparents on the dates I'm looking at. It'll be loads of fun!

What do you have coming up in your future?

Judge Not

As human beings, we're all tempted to be judgmental. Many of us find ourselves yielding to that temptation much *much* more often than we want to admit.

"Does she not realize that wearing clothes like that totally draws attention to how fat she is?"

"Does he ever think before he speaks? He probably just offended someone!"

"They are so dumb to be doing that. Don't they realize how good they've already got it? Why try to improve perfection?"

Etc. etc. etc.

That's why this post kinda hit home for me. Because I've been in the Judging Shoes waaaay too often in my own life. Especially in the area of judging other people who should be like me, but aren't.

For example: For a (brief) amount of time, I was in a homeschool book club. I was really eager to get involved because the only friends I had who were my age were online. To have friends in person just thrilled me. A Homeschool Book Club seemed like the best way to find people who were just like me.
The day of the first meeting, I put my Jane Austen, C. S. Lewis, and a couple of biographies into my book bag, made sure my long jean skirt and my blouse were wrinkle-free, and headed to the library. I was met by... a girl with a boy haircut who was wearing almost nothing. Another girl dressed in tight black with dark makeup, etc. A boy with Harry Potter books and other awful reading selections. I waited. The whole first meeting, I kept thinking that someone would come in late and be my bosom friend.
Nothing.
I was stuck with a bunch of pretenders. Home schooled kids who wanted to be in that awful group called The World.
On the outside I was friendly. I talked with them, I read with them. On the inside, though, I judged. After each meeting I mentally went over what was wrong with them. I didn't realize until after the club had disbanded:

The problem was me.

Judge not that ye be not judged.

A Post on Devotion

I managed to forget to read my blog feed for awhile, so I got somewhat behind. But as I finally finished catching up with everything this morning, I found a post that kinda made me think. How often am I guilty of being more devoted to good things than I am to my Lord?

A Little Late...

Happy Mother's Day!

I am so thankful for my mom and everything that she does for me. She is definitely one of the top moms out there! (I'd say she's the best, but I know how much controversy that would cause among my friends... so I'll leave rooms for their moms to be great, too. LOL)

I'm also thankful for the many godly women that have been a blessing and encouragement to me over the past few years. Here are the blogs of a couple of the ladies who have blessed me most online:

Partay!!!

A couple of people from blogs I follow have done posts about a blog party that they found... And being the party person that I am, I decided I'd join the fun! So here are some questions and answers I thought I'd fill out for the party. =D

1. What's your favorite time of the day, and why? Evening, especially in the summer. The satisfaction after a day of work or play... the slowing down feeling. Ah...

2. If health wasn't an issue, what food could you live off of? Qdoba. And pizza and cinnamon rolls.

Photobucket

Photobucket

3. If you could have one wish granted (besides wishing for more wishes), what would it be? That, my friends, shall remain a secret. =D

4. What's one thing that you get teased about a lot? *ahem* Okay... I'll go for something not too embarrassing... like snakes. Yeah. Snakes. {And here is where I do the unbelievable and post a picture.} (And here is where I do the believable and change my mind)

5. If you could choose one movie, book, or TV show to spend your life in, which would you pick? What type of character would you be? Oh, boy... tough question. Probably the Love Comes Softly series. I'd be... a female character. LOL

Photobucket

6. If you could have one talent that you don't already have, what would it be? To be athletic. A good ice skater, actually. I would SO love to be a good ice skater!

7.If money were no object, where would you go on vacation? If money were no object, I'd go on a tour of the world. If I had to pick one location, though... Pemberley. =D

Photobucket

8. If you were an awesome singer, which genre would you sing? 50's and 60's music or sacred.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, what would it be? Do you even have to ask?????

Photobucket

10. If you could live in any point in time, when would it be? This is a tough question, too. I think sometimes that I'd like ANY time period. Right now, though, I'd say the 40's or 50's. Big band music, awesome radio shows, drinking sodas at the soda shop with friends, poodles skirts, etc etc etc *sigh* I love 50's diners! Johnny B Goode's and all those other unhealthy places to eat. *grins*

Photobucket

11. If every outfit in your wardrobe had to be one color, what would it be? Green or brown.

12. If you were one of the seven dwarves, which one would you be?(Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy, Sleepy, Bashful, Happy, or Dopey) Today I'm fighting some serioius allergies, so I'm Sneezy. Other days I might classify as Dop... I mean, I'm usually Sneezy.

13. What's the last album you listened to? LOL Funny you should ask... The Fabulous Fifties. =D A little Perry Como, Dorris Day, etc. Happiness!

14. What's something we'd be surprised to know about you? Ever since I saw my first winter olympics, I've wanted to skate. =D That interest is renewed every time I see the winter olympics or any other skating show. Even watching Sue Thomas, FBEye makes me want to skate! (Fans of the show will prolly know why) \

The End. hehe
